Postcards from Paradise: The “Whim-Storical” Porches of the South

11/06/2026 - 11/20/2026

Artist Joy Stanley’s vibrant new collection at East West Fine Art celebrates the sun-drenched, relaxing essence of coastal Florida porches and patios. Painted in her signature joyful “Whim-storical” style, these cheerful pieces reject rigid architectural lines to invite viewers into a world of carefree tropical leisure.

There is an art to doing absolutely nothing, and nobody captures its vibrant, sun-soaked essence quite like painter Joy Lynn Stanley. In a stunning collection of works on display at the East West Fine Art Gallery in Naples, Florida, Stanley invites viewers to step out of the heat and into the shaded, breeze-kissed sanctuary of the coastal porch.

Known for her signature “Whimstorical” style—a delightful aesthetic fusion where local history and architecture meet playful, loose-lined whimsy—Stanley’s latest collection is a masterclass in coastal relaxation. Born and raised in Macon, Georgia, Stanley spent decades mastering the rigid discipline of en plein air landscape oil painting. However, during a sweltering Southern summer in 2017, she chose to throw perfect lines and careful calculations out the window, giving birth to a freer, happier way of seeing the world.

Today, splitting her time between her native Georgia and the paradise of Naples, Florida, Stanley has trained her eye on the ultimate symbol of tropical leisure: the patio.

Stanley’s featured paintings read like a love letter to the Florida lifestyle, celebrating bright color palettes, coastal architecture, and the joy of a slow afternoon.
