Leticia Herrera

Leticia Herrera is a Mexican Mixed media artist Residing in Mckinney, Texas. Herrera introduction to the art world began early in her life inspired by her uncle, famous Spanish painter Jose Morales. Deep inside her she always knew she wanted to be an artist and experimented with her own different mediums throughout her younger years.

She moved to the US to pursue her formal art education at LSU, earning a bachelor’s in fine arts graphic design in 1992 in an athletic scholarship.  After her degree she returned to her country and started working as a Creative Director in Avon Mexico during the day. But in the evening, she worked at her home studio as a freelance artist, trying to explore her own creativity.

As her artwork evolves to a more personal style, Herrera discovers within herself a deep and strong sense of color, and a connection between her emotions and color itself. In 1996 she decides to paint full-time and abandons her career as a Creative Director and designer and pursues her art. She signs in with a select group of artists under the instruction of the prestigious painter Santiago Carbonell. (Spanish painter). In her first solo show “Acercamientos Intimos” (Museum “Regional de Queretaro” in Mexico) the influenced of Carbonell was portrayed in her paintings by the use of the human figures, yet; it is obvious that the vibrating colors that she used to express the subject matter was almost as overwhelming as the subject itself.

After her first Solo show she had two more exhibitions at the Museum of Art. But it was not until the next exhibition 5 years later when she starts engaging into abstraction portrait in the series “Into the light” and “Between my Lines”

Over the years Herrera’s work has changed and become more and more abstract. She has also gained more confidence and has experienced more freedom of execution, creating striking images that go beyond the obvious to something even deeper. Her Recent work is inspired not only by the artist’s Mexican roots but by current issues and daily emotions of herself and those who are around her.

Leticia Herrera “I consider myself an expanding artist because we are always transforming. My work walks with me and changes with me.” Leticia Herrera is a prize winning Mexican artist who seeks to explore what it means to be human in her art. Painting mostly with oils and palette knife, she masterfully captures perspective in her pieces. She refers to the three dimensional oil impastos figures as “walkers”, describing them as travelers of the world and dreamers of life in search of unity and freedom. In search of Joy and peace. Conveying a sense of human vulnerability and a truthful hope. The shadows of her WALKERS describe constant movement, unstoppable, always towards the soul of human existence.

Herrera is an experienced artist with works in private collections worldwide, has shown her work in important Museums in Mexico, and has received several awards in North Texas. Herrera is a member of several Arts Organizations and serves in the Board of Directors of the Visual Arts Guild of Frisco. And has her studio in McKinney, Texas USA.

HERRERA ON HER “WALKERS”: “I believe in the kindness of humanity. I believe that our diversity is what makes this world interesting. I consider myself an expanding artist because I believe we are always transforming. My work walks with me and changes with me. In my art, I represent that trajectory through my Series Walkers, They are searchers of beautiful emotions; they are travelers of the universe and the world. They are catchers of dreams; they are explorers of aspirations, searchers of unity and of freedom. Asking always who are we? Where are we going? What are we looking for? What do we want? Who do we love? In my paintings I am trying to transport you to those places of my imagination where we are often find ourselves. I want to touch your soul, open your heart, and invite you to walk with me.” LETA
