Susan Hecht Artist Interview: Finding Beauty in Everyday Moments
February 10, 2026

Artist Susan Hecht draws inspiration from the subtle, often unnoticed moments of daily life. In this exclusive Susan Hecht artist interview, represented by East West Fine Art, a leading Naples art gallery celebrating 25 years in Naples, Susan shares how her contemporary paintings encourage viewers to slow down, reflect, and rediscover the beauty around them.
Through her original artwork, Susan captures familiar scenes filled with warmth, nostalgia, and emotion. Her paintings remind us that ordinary moments can become extraordinary when viewed through an artist’s perspective.
Gallery owner Leeza Arkhangelskaya (LA) speaks with Susan Hecht (SH) about her creative process, artistic inspiration, and the meaningful connections she hopes viewers discover in her work.
Capturing Familiar Moments Through Art
LA: How does your artwork capture feelings of familiarity, nostalgia, and warmth?
SH: I enjoy painting ordinary moments that occur in everyone’s life. My hope is that my work helps people recognize something within themselves—whether it is a feeling of remembrance or a connection to their own experiences. Seeing reflections of themselves and their lives in my art is part of my mission: to appreciate the everyday beauty in the world around us.
Susan’s paintings transform simple experiences into meaningful works of contemporary art. Her attention to atmosphere, emotion, and storytelling allows collectors to connect personally with each piece.
The Joy of Exploration and Creativity
LA: What are your favorite and least favorite aspects of being an artist?
SH: My favorite part about being an artist is exploration, discovery, and creativity. I love to lose myself in the moment. I can walk into my studio and be completely transported. Hours later, I can feel like something magical took place.
For Susan, the creative process is about curiosity and discovery. Each painting represents a journey of observation, experimentation, and connection.
Finding Inspiration Through the Creative Process
LA: How do you stay inspired?
SH: I actually do not always stay inspired. Picasso said, “Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.” For me, it is important to put in the time and get through the moments when I’m not feeling overly inspired. But it is also important to take breaks, as they can recharge creativity.
I believe that once you begin to see like an artist, you are always painting in your mind, continually honing your skills.
