Why do people buy art?
December 1, 2021

So many reasons: volumes are written on this subject: why people buy fine art. Without diving too deep I will restrain myself from quoting Foreign Policy magazine, stating seven main reasons why people SHOULD buy art.
For many people art brings beauty and brings aesthetical pleasure; for some, art inspires creativity and stimulates them. Art could become a healer in hard times and times of distress. Nobody will argue that art makes us kinder and happier.

Art evokes emotion
The very presence of art on human life is important because it evokes emotional response. We truly form a personal relationship with the art object. When you purchase art you love, it becomes a manifestation of what is important for you, what is meaningful for you. I often compare the relationship with the art object to a love affair. And actually, that has been scientifically proven! When you are looking at the piece of art that you love, the brain activity is similar to the one that occurs when you are in love.

Art inspires
Art allows you to look at the world from a different perspective. Art inspires your own creativity, opens up your mind, stimulates you to learn more about the very subject matter, the history, geography, style, symbolism, culture, religion. Art gives you a possibility to transcend time, space, even your state of mind. Moreover, religious art, according to russianicon.com, serves as a link between divine and human, between heaven and earth.
Artworks, if they are real ones, not merely commercial junk, fill the viewer with new energy, joy and motivation. They open the mind and call to achieve new heights in spiritual and mental growth. Really talented artwork could be a true breakthrough for us. Few people think about how important it is to surround yourself with good art. Even fewer know how to choose from thousands of pieces that just fake art, the real one that truly touches you. If you aspire to do this, if you fill your life with art, you and your life will be transformed, and there will be no challenge on Earth that you wouldn’t be able to overcome.

Buying good art, you encourage and support good artists
The world needs talented artists, and they need our spiritual and material support to continue to create and grow. Adversely, not being able to distinguish fake “art” and commercial junk from the real one, and by supporting the production of such junk, you misallocate your (and society) resources; moreover, contribute to the environmental pollution – in both physical and spiritual sense.
Think that contemporary art is the message that we will leave for future generations, by the art pieces that we buy and preserve, we will be judged after we are gone.

Art makes you feel at home
Bringing home talented artwork, adds warmth, personality to the interior design and overall harmonizes the environment. The most expensive and tasteful interior design will lack live and positive energy without talented artworks. Art is the soul of your home. Art reflects your personality, life experience, values, and self-awareness. Talented art will always please and amuse your guests and friends, and will give space a “homey” feeling.
Art preserves and improves mental and physical health
Numerous medical studies state that spending several hours a day participating in artistic activities or just enjoying art, is beneficial to your overall wellbeing and health. Bright colors, beautiful shapes, interesting patterns, and inspired, talented pieces of art can do wonders: strengthen people’s relationships with nature, community, each other; improve student’s grades and attendance. Increase motivation, builds self-esteem.
Art is a great investment
Not only financial, but furthermore in your overall well-being and self-awareness. Talented art helps us to understand who we are and why we live. Inspired art will inevitably call us to be the best version of ourselves and to live the best life we could.

Art is a valuable gift
Artistic self-expression is what differs humans from animals. Creativity has always been essential to humanity, starting from first cave paintings, petroglyphs, and prehistoric statuettes. For this reason, the most valuable and appreciated gift to your loved one on a special day, consider buying a piece of art. For sure, it will become a very personal, unique, and thoughtful present that will be treasured forever.
We very much hope that our thoughts will be useful to you. We encourage you to explore the world of art every more and more! Education is of essence in distinguishing good art from junk. Broaden and deepen your knowledge, make art an important part of your life.
